Martinus Photography was established in 2005 by Ferdy Martinus and his family. Ferdy's photography background goes back almost 20 years to when he was still in high school. Since then, he attended several photography formal courses and started his own photo studio. Martinus Photography was also one of the first photographers in the La Crosse, WI area who specialized in HD video, something that we know will change traditional photography. Ferdy has shot about 150 weddings in his photography career, is a long time member of the WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association), AG-WPJA (Artistic Guild WPJA), and WPA (Wedding Photographer Association).

I have been captivated by storytelling since I first learned to draw. Through my childhood and on through college I've honed in on my favorite tool for storytelling; the photograph. I attended Winona State University to study two programs, Photojournalism and Studio Art. Both programs together helped me to develop a candid shooting style while maintaining an artistic edge. My fascination resides in the gray area where creativity meets documentation. The challenge with photography is maintaining creative control while everything around you is out of your control. It's fun and rewarding to capture important moments in a client's life with a camera. Whether it be photographing an infant, high school senior, family, or wedding: there's no greater rush than catching a smile or emotion in a split second that can describe a person or place in one photograph.

I have always been very interested in art and media. I cultivate that passion through drawing, ceramics, filming, editing, and photography. I even enjoy participating in performing arts like dance and theater. I believe all of these different mediums feed in to one another. Rhythm, space, timing, movement, color, shape, balance, etc. are integral to composing works of art, and I love putting those pieces together. I graduated from Winona State University in 2011, where I majored in Studio Art with a minor in Mass Communication. I was also very privileged to work for the local radio station, KQAL, where I harbored much of my passion for communicative media. Since graduation, I've traveled quite a bit, teaching elementary students in South Korea for two years. Relating and interacting with so many interesting people has really improved my interpersonal skills, which is essential when working with living subjects.

The art of photography is an integral part of who I am. As a child I began with photographing sunsets from my backyard and told everyone I was going to be a photographer when I grew up. I believe I inherited the artistic eye from my mom and the technical aptitude from my dad. I studied photography, fine arts, and communications at two universities, then then worked as a studio assistant for another photographer. In 2011 I started my own photography business.
Color, light, texture, and details are what inspire me. Photography is about preserving something as it is in the moment, and bringing out beauty in things that go unnoticed by most
It wasnt until my first semester of college did I ever consider art and photography to be so important in my life. When I took my first photography class, I knew that this was what I wanted to pursue in my future. I am a student at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse majoring in Art and minoring in Photography. Digital art has become my focus in my later years of college. From creating digital paintings from behind a computer screen to being behind the lens of a camera is what interests me. I enjoy capturing the precious moments for an individual on their eventful day. Being able to capture that moment in time and to produce images for an individual where they can relive that memory for years to come is so rewarding to me.
